The Miracle of Sura Baqar Verses 2:02 to 2:034

When your Lord said to the angels: ‘I am placing a caliph on earth,’ they replied: ‘Will You put there one that will do evil and shed blood, when we have for so long sung Your praises and sanctified Your name?’ He said: ‘I know what you do not know.’ He taught Adam all the names and then set them before the angels, saying: ‘Tell me the names of these, if what you say be true.’ ‘Glory be unto You,’ they replied, ‘we have no knowledge except t… Continue

The Quran 24:35 The Parable of an Electric Bulb!

This is a snapshot of the Times to come,

in Ayat 35: The description of the Electric Bulb! And ....(a conviction!) of Allah doth guide whom (Thomas Edison) He will to his Light

in Ayat 36: He speaks of Houses raised in his Honour (Masaajids), for the celebration,in them, of His name, and the People who Glorify Him Mornings & Evenings!

in Ayat 37: The mention of traffic or merchadise, also shows that it is future times indeed, there could not have been much traffic in circa 10 hijri in Arabia.

The Original translations are as follows:

35. Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.

36. (Lit is such a Light) in houses, which Allah hath permitted to be raised to honour; for the celebration, in them, of His name: In them is He glorified in the mornings and in the evenings, (again and again),-

37. By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity: Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new),-

38. That Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace: for Allah doth provide for those whom He will, without measure.

Al-Fateha or The Opening- Another Miracle:
An Odyssey from Prophet Isaiah (circa 750 BC) to Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)

It is narrated that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) has said:
“By the One, in Whose hand is my soul, Allah has not sent down a similar Sura to this Sura (Al-Fatihah), neither in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Psalms, nor even in the Qur’an, and it is Umm-ul-Kitab”;(Majm’-ul-Bayan, vol.1 p.17) which means that it is the basis and origin of all excellence.

This Chapter, “The Opening” forms a part of the daily five times Muslim Prayer. Seen in the context and frame of the daily prayer, it is a divine revelation, sent especially for the purpose of worship; and no other Chapter of the Qur’an comes near to it in this respect. For both the 1st and the 2nd Raka’at it forms an integral part.

This sura has been given 10 titles, as taken from the Islamic narrations and commentaries:
Fatihatul-ul-Kitab;Umm-ul-Kitab;Umm-ul-Qura’an; Saba’-ul-Mathani; Al-Wafiyah; Al-Kafiyah; Ash-Shafiyah; Al-Asas; As-Salat and Al-Hamd. (Rauh-ul-Janan, Abul-Futuh Razi, Commentary vol 1 p16)

In Marmaduke Pickthall’s version of the English Translation of the Qura’n, it has been called The Lord’s prayer of the Muslims and is the essential part of all Muslim worship, public & private and no solemn contract or transaction is complete unless it is recited.

There are traditions attributed to the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) saying:

“Allah, Mighty and Great is He, has said:
I have divided the Opening of the Book between Myself & My servant. And my servant shall get what he asks for.”

The Sura which has been referred to as “Saba’an-min al-Mathani, “Seven of the Oft repeated” in the Chapter 15th Al-Hijr, verse 87, is in two parts: One for Allah and the other for the servant as follows:

The 1st part is:

1. “In The name of Allah, The Beneficent, The merciful.”
2. “(All) praise is (only) Allah’s, The Lord of the Worlds.”
3. “The Beneficent, The merciful.”
4 “Master of the Day of Judgement.”

The 2nd part meant for the servant is;

5. “Thee (alone) do we worship and of Thee (only) do we seek help.”
6. “Guide us (O’Lord) on the Straight path.”
7. “The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed Thy bounties, not (the path) of those inflicted with Thy wrath, nor (of those) gone astray.”

Recitation of the seven benign verses of “The Opening” four of which glorify the Lord and three of which beseech his simple guidance to traverse on a straight path – the recitation goes on non-stop around the globe at all times wherever the prayers are being offered.
Through this chapter, revealed, there is an attempt to show Mankind, the Methods of servitude, so that through Mankind, God Mighty & Great may fulfill His Ordained Purpose. In the 2nd part of the Sura, the predominant theme refers to a certain “Straight Path”.

As the Globe rotates on its axis, all over the World, it is being recited, at all times, continuously, non-stop, somewhere as Morning prayers, as Noon prayers, as Afternoon prayers, as Maghrib prayers or as Eisha prayers.

Near the Equator it takes about 4 minutes for the Earth to traverse between two longitudes. The process of this recitation is therefore perpetual, non stop, around the World.

It is therefore not surprising that an event of this magnitude would have gone un-noticed by the Prophets who came to the World before Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), endowed as they were with divine vision and foresight, of the times to come.

Now if one referred to the Bible, in the New Testament, there is a consistent reference made in all the four gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John to a “Straight Path”. All four gospels have been quoted from Prophet Isaiah, who lived around 750 BC.

I quote below these passages from all the four Gospels:

Mathew(3.3) Someone is shouting in the desert, “Prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for our God to travel!”
Mark(1.3) Someone is shouting in the desert, “Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for our God to travel!”
Luke(4.8) Someone is shouting in the desert: “get the road ready for the Lord, make a straight path for our God to travel! … All mankind will see God’s salvation!”
John(1.23) The voice of someone shouting in the desert…”Make a straight path for our God to travel!”
(Good news Bible, Today’s English Version, Fontana, UK)

The authors of the Gospels in the New Testament generally relied on and quoted from the ancient Greek translations of the old Testament known as the Septuagint version, produced sometime around 200 BC.
The sheer power & force of the event under discussion was such that all the four gospels of Mathew, Mark Luke & John dwell on this theme in very close proximity of each other.

Accessing original and more authentic sources may not be easy as following the Council of Nicene called at Nicea (now Isnik, a village in the modern day Turkey), in the year 325 AD, all Gospels in Hebrew (some 270 versions), some of which may have closely reflected on Prophet Jesus’ (pbuh) sayings were ordered to be destroyed and an edict was issued by Emperor Constantine, who as a secular ruler, and needing the support of the Church to unify the Christian tribes of Europe ordered that anyone found in possession of those versions would be burnt alive.

Consequently the only four versions approved by the then condescending clergy, were those that closely matched the beliefs of the pagan Romans (who were in the process of converting into Christianity) justifying the Roman Gods & Goddesses- such as justification of the Holy Trinity, and attributing fatherhood to God.
(Preface to the Gospel of Barnabas, Lonsdale & Laura Ragg, published by Idara Isha’at- e-diniyat (P) Ltd., New Delhi)

The advent of Islam in the Desert of Arabia, centuries after Isaiah’s prophecies, and the revelation of “The Opening” ,and its non-stop recitation for perpetuity around the globe, unravels the mystery.
The perpetual sounds of these recitations in the formal body and frame of the daily 5 times prayer around the globe must have been so deafening for the Prophet Isaiah in the year circa 750 BC. That he could not help observe what he did and recorded the event for perpetuity.

How does “God travel through the straightened Path and the real import of this Sura as related by Mark, Mathew, Luke & John in the New Testament ?

The Shiite School has some answers:

1. The Straight Path- According to the Apostle of Allah(pbuh) is the path of the righteous, of justice, of faith and of good deeds. It is a path of the Prophets and they are those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace.
2. The Qu'ran in Sura 11 Verse 56 says: “Verily it is my ‘Rabb’ who is on a straight path” In sura 43 verse 43, “So hold fast to the revelation sent down to thee. Verily thou art on the a Straight Path.”
3. Sura 3 Verse 50 says “Verily it is Allah who is our sustainer. Then be subservient to Him. This is the path that is straight.”

Other Key features are:

4. This Sura refers to Resurrection.
5. It presents facts concerning Unity of attributes, Divine Essence, Unity of divine Acts, (the only author of causes), and Unity of Worship and
6. It is a gist of the whole Qu’ran.
7. ‘Ar-Rahman’ (the Beneficent’) and Ar-Raheem( the Merciful)- adjectives derived from Ar- Rahmah (Mercy) are repeated AT LEAST 30 TIMES IN A DAY BY EVERY MUSLIM- An attribute through which Mankind attains close relationship with the Creator.
8. According to Imam Jafar Sadiq(A.S.), a path which ends in His Love, leads us to Paradise, and saves us from following our destructive desires and our own wrong and destroying decisions, is the path which is straight.
9. In this Sura, the tone, melody and style are different as compared to other Suras of the Qur’an. Other Suras contain instructions from Allah, but in this Sura, His Words are uttered on behalf of His Servants: Allah has taught His Servants how to supplicate, and speak to Him. Simply and without any mediator.

And lastly, if there be any doubt left, Let us see what our own Prophet (pbuh) mentions:

“Allah has not sent down a similar Sura (Al-Fatihah), neither in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Psalms, nor even in the Qur’an, and it is Umm-ul-Kitab”(Majm’-ul-Bayan, vol.1 p.17)

should effectively close this issue.

I am introducing to the visitors of this site a great book written by Abdul-Zahrá' Al-Ka`bee on the battle of Kerbala in two parts. This has been translated into English by Taher Al-Shemaly from
Kuwait , in the year 2007.
In his introduction, imam Sayid Hasan Al-Shirazi, says,
This book shows in brief the events of the revolution of imam Al-Husayn with its two parts, and it was read by the great preacher, the pious pilgrim, sheik `Abdul-Zahrá' Faláh Al-Ka`bee, in two sets that he joined in Iraq. He read the first part in a public set which was held beside the radius of imam Al-Husayn's tomb [called Al-Sahan] at the day of Ashurah every year. He also read the second part in a public set that was held beside Al-Sahan too on Al-Arba`een [that is, the passage of 40 days after the martyrdom of Al-Husayn (PUH)] in the year 1379 A.H. (1959)
The first part is the one which is broadcasted by the radio of Baghdad on the morning of Ashurah every year since 1379 A.H.(1959AD) and in the same year it was broadcasted twice, once at daytime and once at night and that is because 14 thousands requests by telegrams and by phone reached the minister of culture and the station's headquarter asking to broadcast it again. It has also been broadcasted in a complete form for years from the arabic radio station of Ahwáz [a town on border between Iran and Iraq] every year on the day of Ashurah, and some parts of it are broadcasted -for two years ago- from the station of Kuwait.
The second part -which tells what happened after the death of imam Al-Husayn until his Household turned back to Medina- was broadcasted from the station of Baghdad on the morning of Al-Arba`een in the years 1379 A.H. and 1380 A.H. (1959 & 1960)
The two parts are reproduced from the tapes into the papers -and the poetry that was in the local dialect has been omitted because it was in iraqi dialect, which can be hard to understand for non-iraqis. Please go to the following site:
for 1st part: http://www.sacred-texts.com/isl/hus/hus03.htm
for 2nd part: http://www.sacred-texts.com/isl/hus/hus04.htm
